"Tom Tube" is a challenging tile placement and point to point movement game for two players. The game lasts for 20 to 30 minutes.
The primary goal in this game is the same for both players: send your astronaut to the solar modules of your color and get him back to your base first. Because of the topology of the game the pathes taken by the astronauts will cross each other several times. On their way they have to pick up valuable tokens to increase the final score.
Game play alternates between the two players whereby each player has two options when taking his turn:
* build new tubes, or
* move his astronaut
The game starts with an empty board - only bases and solar modules are present. Taking alternating turns the players now have to build tubes for their astronauts to drift through. The tubes are printed on rhombs. Each rhomb shows several intersecting tubes including exactly one connection between two corners in the color of each player - whenever a rhomb is placed on the board both astronauts will profit from it. Because of their special properties 0 to 6 tubes may intersect in a corner of a rhomb.
By placing a rhomb the players are able to create isolated gaps in form of triangles which they are allowed to fill up using their own tiles showing tubes of their own color only (or no tubes at all).
By placing rhombi and triangles on the board the players are constructing spheres which represent intermediate stations on the path of each astronaut. As soon as some tubes are build and some spheres are fully completed the players are able to move their astronauts.
Placing the tubes in a clever way enables a player to move his astronaut fast over long distances.
On their way the astronauts pick up tokens to earn extra points at the end of the game. Alternatively these tokens may be used to execute special moves.
* By paying an energy token an astronaut is allowed to jump through space.
* Paying a control token allows a player to use all tubes - even the tubes of his opponent.
The one who gets his astronaut back to his base first after visiting both his solar modules earns additional bonus points and at the same time ends the game.
