Reiner Knizias Ingenious series got a new child in Essen 2008: "Ingenious: das Kartenspiel/ the card game". In this game each player is dealt a hand of 6 cards and one open lying in front of them. A card shows a combination of two symbols/colors known from the Ingenious board game (each card shows one of the board game tiles, except that there are no doubles here).
On your turn you play one of your hand cards and score as many points for each symbol on the played card as there are symbols lying in front of all players. These points are marked on an individual scoring track. The first player to move all colors to 7+ points wins.
However, there are three barriers that cannot be passed by any color unless all colors have passed a certain amount of points - which forces the players to push their colors evenly.
Players of the board game will notice some other similarities than the ones mentioned (e. g. if you reach 10 points with a color you get an immediate bonus move).
